The Deborah B. Castro Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which was incorporated in June 2014. The Foundation was created by family members and close friends.

In 2012, Debbie was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a disease that began to severely weaken her heart. After several months of therapy that did not satisfactorily address the problem, she was placed on the list for a heart transplant. Before a replacement heart became available, Debbie succumbed to the disease and passed away on July 30, 2013, but her legacy lives on through this Foundation. Debbie was also a strong supporter of research efforts for cancer and heart disease.
